Did you know physiotherapy can help with a range of Women’s Health issues? Women can experience various health issues throughout all stages of life, particularly during the childbearing years. Our physiotherapist, Alisha Bajerai, has a special interest in Women’s Health and is available to help with a range of issues including;

 

  • Prolapse of the Bladder, Bowel or Uterus – prolapse is a very common condition for women, especially those which have had children. Symptoms may include a feeling of heaviness or dragging in the vagina or lower abdomen or feeling/seeing a lump in the vagina. Prolapse can be successfully manages strengthening the pelvic floor muscles, under the guidance of your physiotherapist.

 

  • Blocked Milk Ducts / Mastitis in Breastfeeding Mothers – This painful condition can be resolved quickly with treatment by a women’s health physio. Treatment consists of using ultrasound and drainage techniques for blocked ducts. A women’s health physio is also able to help with positioning to ensure drainage of the ducts.

 

  • Urinary Incontinence and Overactive Bladder – One in three women will suffer from incontinence, or loss of bladder, control during their lifetime. If you feel the need to pass urine frequently and urgently, this may be a symptom of an overactive bladder. A women’s health physio will be able to help with these common conditions.

 

  • Pelvic Floor Weakness – Pregnancy, childbirth and menopause can all contribute to weakening pelvic floor muscles. Alisha can assess the strength of your pelvic floor muscles and give you exercises to improve your muscle strength. These exercises will allow you to improve the strength of your pelvic floor and ensure the muscles are functioning at their best.

 

  • Exercise in High Risk Pregnancy and Returning to Exercise after Birth – Knowing what kinds of exercises are safe and beneficial during and after pregnancy can be difficult, but it is something Alisha is able to guide you through. She can recommend different exercises for difference stages of pregnancy and will ensure that the exercises are done in a way that is safe for you and baby.

 

  • Pregnancy Related Lower Back, Pelvic and Pubic Symphysis Pain – Alisha is able to help identify what is causing the pain and why. She can then give advice on how the aches or pains can be alleviated and recommend exercises or positions that should be avoided to decrease pain and prevent future injury.
